What are Trading Strategies?

When you invest in a Trading Strategy, Saxo’s hand-picked expert traders make speculative trade decisions on your behalf, directly in your account. They may take one or two speculative positions with specific short-term expectations, or none at all if conditions aren’t favourable – the pulse of the market dictates. This means our experts may also enter short positions to target profits from downward market movements.
Please note that Trading Strategies are categorised as very high risk.  While taking on such risk could see you achieve significant returns, be aware that drawdowns in excess of 20% are a distinct possibility.

Risks when investing
Trading in financial products always involves a risk. As a general rule, you should therefore only trade in financial products if you understand the products and the risks associated with them. Investing in a fund with a currency that differs from your account base currency carries the risk of exposure to changes in the rate of exchange between them. As a general rule, you should therefore only trade in financial products if you understand the products and the risks associated with them..

Frequently asked questions

No, you don’t. Once you’ve invested in a trading strategy, we will automatically create a sub-account dedicated to that portfolio under your existing Saxo account.

If you haven’t already done so, you’ll need to open a Saxo account and add the amount you intend to invest, subject to the minimum amount for each portfolio. Then follow these steps:

Open the platform and click the ‘SaxoSelect’ tab.
Click the ‘Invest’ button, next to your chosen portfolio.
If this is your first time with SaxoSelect, you’ll need to complete a set of suitability questions specifically for trading strategies (this is different to an appropriateness test, which relates to self-directed investing).
Open the trade ticket and enter the amount you’d like to invest.

There is no minimum investment period and you can exit at any time at no additional cost. However, it’s important to remember that trading strategies are designed for long-term investing and we only recommend them if you intend to invest for several years.

Our fees are constructed to align the cost as much as possible with the performance you incur. Costs vary depending on the trading strategy you choose to invest in.

Cost explained
Service fee: This is the fee charged for Saxo to manage your money. It is an annual cost, deducted quarterly on a pro-rata basis.

Trading Costs: when trades are placed in the market there are costs associated with these transactions. In our Trading Strategies, we reduce these transaction costs to be significantly lower than standard client rates, reducing the impact on performance as much as we can.

Performance Fee: this fee is only charged if you incur a positive performance. The High Water Mark (HWM) is used to determine this, and ensures that you do not get charged on positive performance if your account value remains lower than its high point – you only get charged a performance fee if your account value reaches new highs.

Trading Strategies are categorised as very high risk, due to the high conviction and speculative nature of positions.

Over the long term, returns are expected to reward investors for the risk assumed. However, significant drawdowns in excess of 20% are a real possibility throughout some periods.
Trading Strategies should not generally be considered appropriate for savings or traditional investing purposes.
